All I Want For Christmas

Here is what I want for Christmas. I want to hear from you.

The recent article in Wall Street Journal quoted the National Appraiser Survey that is still underway. If you don’t think your voice gets heard, it does if you respond to the survey the Appraisal Buzz conducts every year. That particular article spawned a whole lot of additional articles in USA Today and Bloomberg and other national publications. Your voice will be suppressed, by your making, if you fail to speak up. The most important takeaway from the WSJ article, found here, is that appraisal issues made the front page of the Wall Street Journal.

We are continuing to collect responses to the survey from appraisers for a few more weeks. Please take a few minutes to respond to the National Appraiser Survey.

I receive emails from appraisers all of the time. I follow a ridiculous volume of social media on appraisal and housing finance related issues. But when it comes time to step up, and formalize your gripes, apathy takes over. It is a phenomenon I cannot explain. I think that may be an article for another day perhaps. But it would seem to me that “social media” has been inappropriately labeled. The paradox is that I think the Internet has disenfranchised appraisers.

If appraisers don’t wish to be marginalized then they need to do a better job of communicating. Join something, for the advancement of your own professional career. Attend conferences. Take on site continuing education classes. Get engaged. Reboot!

But I digress. Back to my original thought… what I want for Christmas are really two things. No monetary investment is required on your part and it will be regifted with tidings and joy:

  1. Take the National Appraiser Survey
  2. Read and sign the C&R Petition

That, my friends, will make me quite joyful.

Happy Holidays,

Joan Trice
