Susan Collins, R-Maine, is saying that a safe harbor should be written into federal privacy laws to protect advisers from legal liability if they report suspected financial abuse of the elderly. It is no coincidence that she is the chairwoman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging. “If they report in good faith, it seems to me they need some sort of protection, or many of them are not going to be willing to report,” she said.
