On March 18th, The Appraisal Foundation (the Foundation), the Association of Appraisal Regulatory Officials (AARO) and the Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC) issued a joint message for appraisers and regulators regarding COVID-19.
The Foundation has created a page on its website titled “Coronavirus and Appraisers: Your Questions Answered.” This page can be accessed here.
The Foundation reminds appraisers and users of appraisal services that USPAP does not mandate an interior inspection of properties by appraisers. The Foundation does not have the authority to suspend or waive interior inspections. The requirement for interior inspections is established by clients and users of appraisal services.
The ASC is providing relief to state regulatory programs, including postponing the remaining 2020 state regulatory agency compliance reviews. Also, the ASC has pledged to work with states to possibly extend the timeframe for continuing education on an as-needed basis.
The Foundation is also providing important updates in the form of a webinar on Friday, April 3rd at 1pm Eastern time. Appraisers, regulators, and others are welcome to attend the free webinar. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance.
